Untaxed cigarettes may still be trafficked throughout New York, but they will no longer do so with the help of R + L Carriers. The carrier company and New York prosecutors have settled in a case over untaxed cigarettes. R + L will make payments to organizations which may have been impacted by the illegal sales. The American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association will receive $140,000 from the company. The company will institute new compliance measures to reduce and end the shipping of illegal untaxed cigarettes. The investigation found that the company had been responsible for multiple illegal loads of cigarettes.
