FMCSA Could Place New Importance to Data Analysis

A proposed rule change to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations could increase the efficiency of roadside inspections through a connection between the FMCSA’s regulatory authority and the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century highway bill. The rulemaking change would increase the role of data analysis in inspections. The FMCSA may take action against a carrier if that carrier exhibits a pattern of noncompliance according to the new regs, so the proposed rule change would allow data analysis more importance in establishing that pattern. See the full extent of the proposed change here.
